# Cơn mưa axit đầu tiên trên thế giới
Mưa axit được phát hiện ra đầu tiên năm 1952 tại Na - uy khiến cho nhiều loại cá trong hồ tại khu vực xảy ra mưa axit bị chết. Cũng trong năm đó tại Thụy Điển cũng xuất hiện mưa axit khiến cho 4000 hồ không có cá, 9000 hồ bị mất một phần lớn các loài cá đang sinh sống, 20000 hồ khác bị biến đổi môi trường nước.
Nhưng phải đến năm 1960 thì các nhà khoa học mới bắt đầu quan sát và nghiên cứu về hiện tượng này. Thuật ngữ mưa axit được đặt ra bởi Robert Angus Smith vào năm 1972. Khi bắt tay vào nghiên cứu hiện tượng này, các nhà khoa học thấy rằng mưa axit rất nguy hại đến môi trường sống, công trình xây dựng, di tích lịch sử.
